Budget support for Hungary's farm sector will drop compared to original plans this year as part of savings decided at a cabinet meeting on February 19.
The Hungarian government will reduce the top-up it gives this year to the EU are-based support to farmers by HUF 33 billion to HUF 45 billion. Farmers will still get more than last year because of the increased EU funds arriving under the scheme.
HUF 4 billion would be frozen in the ministry's budget as part of an announced HUF 60 billion freeze of ministries' operating costs.
