Stadler Inaugurates HUF 5 Billion Train Body Plant In Hungary

Swiss rolling stock maker Stadler Rail Group has inaugurated a HUF 5 billion aluminum train body plant

Swiss rolling stock maker Stadler Rail Group has inaugurated a HUF 5 billion aluminum train body plant in the Hungarian city of Szolnok. Production will start with annual capacity of 60 carriage bodies, but capacity will rise to 200 bodies when another HUF 5 billion investment at the plant is completed by year-end. The plant will employ 200 people. The plant could add assembly to its activities later. State-owned Hungarian railway company MAV signed a contract for the purchase of 30+30 Flirt models from Stadler in 2006. It ordered the second set of 30 multiple units in December 2007, after taking delivery of the last vehicles from the first set. MAV took out a EUR 141.6 million loan from Raiffeisen Bank to pay for the remaining 30 vehicles. The last of the Flirt models is to be put on the tracks in February 2010.
