Hungarian Livestock and Meet Products to be Traded in the US

Hungary’s agricultural success has reached the United States when the Spanish company Monte Nevado started to trade with the local Mangalitsa pig recently.

The mangalitsa supplied by the Hungarian Olmos&Toth costs around USD 125 per kilogram. Olmos&Toth had revenue of HUF 1.4 billion in 2008 and expects to generate about the same in 2009 as prices rise. The majority of the export arrives in Spain.
Traditional meet product processor and manufacturer Pick Szeged also plans to appear on the US market. The boom of export in the sector encourages Hungarian farmers to increase their livestock so that in five years the number of mangalitsa could be doubled.
