US-Indian joint venture REVA Electric Car Co. Ltd. (RECC) is considering building a new plant in the Hungarian city of Debrecen, local newswire Figyelo reports.
The EUR 25million facility with a yearly capacity of 15,000 units, would create 200 jobs. According to JanosSzabo, CEO of Comtex Green Power Ltd. - the official distributor of REVA cars in Hungary -, negotiations with the Hungarian Investment and Trade Development Agency (ITD Hungary) have already been started. Originally launched in India in 2001, the REVA plug-in battery electric vehicle is a 2+2 seater using a lightweight tubular steel frame and ABS body panels. It operates without a clutch and gear, offering a top speed of 80 km/h and a range of about 80 kilometres. RECC has recently announced its plan to to build the world's largest electric vehicle factory in Bangalore, capable of producing 30,000 units annually.
